Eversley Primary school we revealed, were able to register 17,000 bottle refills across three classes in under six months by offering accessible drinking water with (our) reusable bottles. At Northumbria University on another HydraChill project, savings are closer to 300,000 bottles a year at one fitness studio. That's one heck of a big bin saved.
So if we all adapted this practice in the UK this means an Everest of litter and landfill elimination, and enough CO2 reductions to save the Maldives for a future holiday, we'd hope. And if that were not enough a nation of better hydrated, fitter and healthier citizens too, young and old. Given the concerns over sugary drinks contribution to health and obesity, a big saving for the NHS as well.
Ample justification for purchasing and utilising reusable bottles , one would think.
Except the good news doesn't have to end there.
